The Season for Endings by R.S.

As talked about previously, I joined my school's newspaper, and as one of the poetry contributors, I was tasked with writing a poem that reflected the vibe of fall/Halloween for the October edition. This was difficult for me as I usually just write about whatever's happening in my life/what I'm passionate about, but this gave me an opportunity to push my limits. I wrote about endings in reference to fall being the end of summer and leaves changing colors and dying. here it is!

The Season for Endings

by R.S

There can be beauty in endings

the ending of friendships,

relationships,

seasons,

books,

journals.

There can be beauty in saying goodbye,

in chapters closed peacefully,

in crinkled journals,

and leaves that crunch like broken glass beneath your shoes.

There can be beauty in sadness,

in endings you never expected,

in chapters you wish you could tear out,

yet still keep reading.

There can be beauty in October

the wind rustling through bare trees,

dark mornings, darker evenings,

a season curling shut like a final page.

There can be beauty in endings.

So there it is! I hope you like it and that my school enjoys it as well! I'm so excited fall even if it's not the same as it is back east.

a love of reading paired with aphantasia

Today, I want to talk about the intersection of two things I'm passionate about: reading and autism. I am autistic, and I experience a thing called aphantasia. Let's talk about it!
