life update and new years resolutions

Hi ya'll, I'm back! And I'm still alive, sorry for being MIA. I've been struggling with my mental health and depression for a little while now, and had no motivation to do anything, so I had taken a step back from my blog. I'm now feeling a bit better and pursuing medication, so I'm back. My posting schedule will probably be somewhat sporadic for a bit.

Now I'd like to wish you a Merry Christmas, slightly late, and happy holidays! I hope y'all are enjoying winter break. I know I am very much, although I know how hard the holidays can be with the pressure to socialize and relatives who don't understand and dismiss your needs and accommodations. I hope you were still able to enjoy it and hold joy and grief together, even though it's hard. Now into topic 2 of this post!

New Year's. For many people, it is exciting and also overwhelming. It can be more so for autistic and disabled people. There's pressure to set New Year's resolutions and big goals, and then achieve them. Maybe you became disabled recently and looked back at your goals for 2025 and feel guilt for not completing them, or maybe social media and your family and friends are pressuring you into making goals for 2026.

I don't want to do that. I don't want to echo what social media and your peers are telling you, because for many people, goals are not encouraging; they're a demonstration of your failures, the fluctuations of a dynamic disability, or struggles with consistency. This year, let yourself off the hook. Don't listen to the world; listen to yourself and your mind and body, and allow yourself to do what's best for you. If you feel like you're missing out or want to set a few goals for the new year, then I encourage you to do so. Personally, I want to set some not goals but intentions for the year.

Here's how I'm going to do it:

  1. setting a word for the year, something to keep you grounded and focused on

  2. setting a couple of intentions for the year

  3. giving myself grace when life inevitably happens

If you're wondering what intentions I plan to set, then it's your lucky day! Here they are:

  1. Read my bible more and complete 3 or more bible plans

  2. read at least 63 books in a year (78 and counting for this year, I'm infatuated with reading)

  3. continue writing poetry and my blog

So there it is! For some, that might sound easy; for others, impossible. Goals/intentions are not one-size-fits-all; they must be adapted for each person. I'm not a stencil for anyone, not even myself from last year.

So I encourage you to give yourself grace, celebrate the wins from this year, go to bed early if that suits you and be glad you've made it another year even if only by the skin of your teeth (I'm glad your still alive! hold onto that in the new year), if it fits your fancy and ability set some intention and pick a word of the year and happy new year good luck in 2026!
