About a year ago, I started my disability journey, and a lot of that was figuring out what was wrong with me through the internet when doctors didn't know or I was waiting for appointments. I scoured the internet for connections to my recent autism diagnosis and the medical complications I was experiencing. People with autism are more likely to hEDS and people with hEDS are more likely to have these things:
be neurodivergent
migraines
early disc degeneration
brain and spine issues
curvature of the spine
POTS
joint problems such as mild scoliosis, kyphosis etc
digestive issues and disorders
bladder issues
anxiety and depression
chronic pain
MCAS
dysautonomia
mitral valve prolapse, aortic root dilation, and dysrhythmia
fibromyalgia
craniocervical instability
Chiari malformation
syringomyelia
intracranial hypertension
tethered cord syndrome
dystonia
tarlov cysts
atlantoaxial instability
slipping rib syndrome
acid reflux
Irritable bowel syndrome
gut dysmotility
Raynaud's phenomenon
low blood pressure
autism
ADHD
bipolar
detached retina
vision problems
ME/CFS
heat intolerance
small fiber neuropathy
CRPS
sleep apnea
Sleep disturbances in general
osteoporosis
Sjogren's syndrome
thyroid disorders
So there it is, a very exhaustive list of hEDS comorbidities, a lot of which I either have or suspect I have, if one part of our body is struggling, other parts struggle as well. Almost like a buy one get a dozen for free.
